Natten mot den 1 juli 2010 rusar två män beväpnade med kalasjnikov och pistol in i kafélokalen Oasen i Södertälje. Där skjuter de ihjäl två bröder, elitfotbollsspelaren Eddie Moussa och fyrabarnspappan Yaacoub Moussa. Dubbelmordet utgör kulmen på den våldsspiral som satt skräck i staden under flera år.
I en liten stad påverkas alla, vare sig man vill eller inte och boken har stort brottsofferfokus: Oritha vars bror lånar pengar av fel människor. Issa som bara vill spela kort med vänner. Philip som kastar tärning för en halv miljon. Milad som vägrar betala för ”skydd”.
