Spring Awakening
Vad handlar det om?
Elva unga människor i en småstad hösten 1919. Alla känner alla. Året går och våren vaknar både i kroppen och världen runt omkring. De längtar efter att bli älskade, att någon ska vilja ha dem och ta på dem så där så det pirrar i hela kroppen; efter riktig kärlek. Vem kan man få? Vem vill släcka din nytända inre brand? Och vem vill förbjuda dig att ens försöka? Det är ett evigt motiv.
Men Frank Wedekind (1864-1918) som skrev pjäsen Frühlings Erwachen (Våren Vaknar) 1891 formar sin berättelse till ett ursinnigt angrepp på vuxenvärldens trångsynthet. Han tar oss med till det mörker som omger de unga när de inte får några svar utan istället förväntas känna skam över sin kropp och längtan. Wedekind var långt före sin tid och pjäsen fick inte spelas.
Musikalen från 2006, av Duncan Sheik och Steven Sater, följer pjäsens handling i spelscenerna som rotar i det mörka, i rädslan, våldet och smärtan. Men i låtarna förflyttar de unga oss till ett slags nutid när de sjunger och dansar fram sina drömmar och känslor. Spelscenerna rotar i det mörka, i rädslan, våldet och smärtan.
