Vivir es adaptarse, y Harriet lo sabe muy bien, con casi 200 años ha sido testigo de los acontecimientos más importantes de la historia reciente de Europa, pero según ella los tiempos de novedad y efervescencia histórica han acabado. Harriet está cansada y desea regresar a casa pero necesita ayuda para volver. En su desesperación pedirá ayuda a un arrogante profesor de historia. Beti, la abnegada mujer del profesor, un ególatra doctor que trabaja en un hospital y el “pobre” de Herodoto completan el elenco de personajes que acompañarán a Harriet en esta aventura. Nuestra protagonista tiene un objetivo, pero todos los demás también. Hasta dónde estará cada uno de ellos dispuesto a llegar para conseguirlo?
En esta fábula escrita por Juan Mayorga, uno de los dramaturgos españoles contemporáneos más representado mundialmente, el entretenimiento se va construyendo entre la comedia y el drama. Mayorga ha sabido encajar e hilar a la perfección los acontecimientos históricos con las nociones más conocidas de la teoría de la evolución de una manera sagaz dando lugar a un ingenioso relato en el que la verosimilitud de la ficción se equilibra con la desbordante imaginación en su escritura.
“La tortuga de Darwin”, nos habla de forma divertida, sarcástica y al mismo tiempo trágica, de temas tan universales como la ambición, la ética, la moral y nos acerca didácticamente a conceptos como la selección natural, la adaptación, y el papel que tiene la competencia y el azar en la supervivencia de las especies. En definitiva, “La tortuga de Darwin” nos muestra la parte más animal de los humanos y la parte más humana de los animales, a veces, y aunque nos parezca increíble, lo que nos diferencia a los humanos del resto de especies es insignificante.
