Kayhan Kalor
En av Irans största musiker och kompositörer i modern tid. Kayhan Kalhor föddes i Teheran till kurdiska föräldrar och redan som trettonåring spelade han i den nationella radioorkestern. Samtidigt studerade han persisk radif såväl som kurdisk och turkmensk musik.
Vid sjutton års ålder avbröts karriären abrupt i och med den iranska revolutionen. Ensam med bara en resväska och sitt favoritinstrument, en kamancheh, gick han till fots hela vägen till Italien.
Senare flyttade han vidare till Nordamerika, där nya musikaliska möten och möjligheter öppnade sig. Med cellisten Yo-Yo Ma vann han en grammy för det gemensamma projektet Silkroad Ensemble. Han har också skrivit filmmusik och samarbetat med bland andra koramästaren Toumani Diabaté, jazzpianisten Rembrandt Frerichs, Kronos Quartet och New York Philharmonic.
Kiya Tabassian
Kiya Tabassian är en setarspelare och kompositör. Vid 14 års ålder emigrerade han med sin familj från Iran till Quebec. Han studerade komposition, samtidigt som han fortsatte förkovra sig i persisk musik på egen hand. Senare grundade han Constantinople, en ensemble med fokus på tidig musik från Medelhavet och Mellanöstern. Hans talanger som kompositör har gett lett till uppdrag för Montreal Symphony Orchestra, Nouvel Ensemble Moderne och Europeiska radio- och TV-unionen. Han har också komponerat för dokumentär- och långfilmer.
