1894 gör Katarina ”Kata” Dalström skandal. Hon är trettiosex år, uppvuxen i en förmögen familj och gift med en konservativ man – ändå blir hon socialdemokrat! Som en av den tidiga kvinno- och arbetarrörelsens främsta agitatorer blir hon senare den första kvinnan som når toppen i ett svenskt parti.
Hon hamnar i opposition med partiledningen men är älskad och beundrad av arbetarna ute i landet, där hon med dåtidens form av home party ses som en levande legend. Privatlivet är lika stormigt som det politiska. Hennes äktenskap är turbulent, hon föder sju barn, blir spiritist och buddhist och har flera kärleksaffärer.
Kata var ett lysande levnadsöde. Utan karaktärer som henne hade utvecklingen mot ett mer demokratiskt och jämställt samhälle inte varit möjlig.
Möt författaren Gunnela Björk som i sin nya bok skildrar Kata Dalströms privata och offentliga liv men även ger en levande bild av ett Sverige på väg in i en modernare tid. Självklart äger samtalet rum i ABF-husets stora föreläsningssal Katasalen.
