Lina Högströms namn har dykt upp här och var: Hon sjunger flera låtar på albumet Däggdjur med artisten Säkert! Hon har spelat med band som Boys, Holy och Chicagojazzen. Samarbetat med Mattias Alkberg och med Norrlandsoperan, och spelat fiol i folkproggbandet Djuriskt. Innan det var hon trummis, under uppväxten i punkens och hardcorens Umeå. Och nog finns det spår av den där kompromisslösa attityden i musiken hon gör under namnet Skator, även om ljudbilden är rena motsatsen: I lekfullt fria låtstrukturer bänder hon fram enkla riff på akustisk gitarr, medan sången kan beskrivas som jazzig med en hel del folkmusikvibbar. I texterna ekar känslor av hemlängtan och utanförskap, en sorts tough love till Västerbotten.
Ahmed Lowla
Vid sidan av den numera världsberömda ökenbluesen, med stjärnor som Tinariwen, Tartit och Ali Farka Touré, har en mera högoktanig partymusik vuxit fram i Saharaöknens södra regioner. Den kallas WZN och spelades till en början enbart på bröllopsfester, men sprids idag genom en livlig handel med kassetter och brännbara CD-skivor. Ahmedou Ahmed Lowla är en av Mauretaniens största stjärnor inom WZN. Hans dynamiska improvisationer tar avstamp i regionens traditioner, men han har skapat en helt egen stil med vad som känns som ändlösa solon på mikrotonal synthesizer. Uppbackade av smattrande rytmer flyger Ahmedou Ahmed Lowlas fingrar över keyboarden, när han inte spelar med armbågarna eller med ansiktet.
