Den svenske ideologen, finansministern och socialdemokraten Ernst Wigforss (1881–1977) har kallats världshistoriens mest framgångsrike socialist. Han uppfann till stora delar det moderna Sverige. Han är ihågkommen via namn på gator och torg — men vem var egentligen "Den store Ernst Wigforss", som han kallats av den internationella statsvetenskapen. Forskningen understryker hans aktualitet i vår egen tid då demokratin trasas sönder av populism, egoism och ideologisk vilsenhet. Den ilskne humanisten Ernst Wigforss borde vara mer idag än enbart ett minne. Han erbjuder mänskligheten och Sverige vad som behövs mer än någonsin valåret 2022 — politisk optimism.
