Descripción
Level: Easy (plain ground, with a few short slopes).
During this walk we visit hidden gems, historical buildings and monuments in Old Town. Many pictures will be shown.
We start with the history of Stockholm, from its birth in the 13th century. We will reveal the history of Riddarholmen church, the oldest existing building in Stockholm, once part of a monastery. We walk down to the waterfront of lake Mälaren for the greatest view of the beautiful City hall. We will talk about the palace used by the Royal family after 1697, when the old castle was burnt down to the ground.
The tour continues to Helgeandsholmen, ”the holy spirit island”,
where we will tell the background for the islets name and explain the
reason why Stockholm is located at its current location.
The odyssey continues to Stadsholmen, the largest of the islands that make up Gamla Stan. We will have a number of stops where historical anecdotes will be revealed. The walk ends near Järntorget.
