I Magwayregionen i Myanmar, ett land med en av de äldska oljeindustrierna i världen, bor Thein Shwe och Htwe Tin. På ett oreglerat mindre oljefält utvinner de på egen hand några fat råolja i månaden. Deras högsta önskan är att deras son ska nå framgång och bryta cykeln av fattigdom.
Dokumentären A Thousand Fires, av den Palestinsk-brittiska filmskaparen Saeed Taji Farouky, är ett porträtt av en familj, en berättelse om konflikter och kompromisser över generationsgränserna. Det är en film om hopp och strävan och om en plats och ett samhälle mitt i världen.

Oil Gobblers (Ropáci) är en, numera kultförklarad, mockumentär från 1988 av den teckiska regissören Jan Svěrák.
Ett forskarteam beger sig till ett oljefält för att studera den ännu inte bekräftat existerande arten Oil Gobblers som sägs ha anpassat sig för att överleva i en förorenad värld där de äter olja och andas avgaser.
Jan Svěrák (1965) är en tjeckisk Oscarsbelönad filmregissör. Ropáci var en film han gjorde som student och för vilken han belönades med en Student Academy Award.
