Come and experience the Young Nordic programmes together with their target audience!

Young Nordic is a selection of excellent short films and documentaries targeting children aged 8-12, and everyone who’s young at heart. Schools in Malmö can book screenings through Kulturkartan.

The programmes are curated by the Department of Culture, Malmö City and BUFF, Malmö’s international festival of films for children and young people. Every March, BUFF screens more than 100 films, creating an essential focal point for anyone working with children’s film and media.

The films in the Young Nordic programmes compete for the Children’s Choice Award, chosen by the young audience themselves.

Shadow Boxer by Andreas Bøggild Monies
Luna (8) lives alone with her mother, Isabella (32), a professional boxer. Fighting a major bout, Isabella is so badly hurt she ends up in a wheelchair. Luna now has her own fight: to get her mother to believe she can once again be the fighter and mother Luna knows, loves and needs.

Let It Grow by Andrea Stief
This year, Marcus and his mother will celebrate Christmas with her new boyfriend and his daughter, Emma. Having to share family traditions is difficult - especially when it is with someone as cute as Emma. She steals all the attention, and jealousy arises. And a strange, green spot begins to grow on Marcus.

With Trees by Lasse Holdhus
From a playground, a young girl peers between the trees of the dark, mysterious forest opposite. She is hoping to see the spirit of her recently deceased mother. Drawn by something, she wanders into the forest alone. She communes with nature on the borders of reality, slipping into the supernatural. An old tree provides comfort. Lying down beside the tree, the girl feels her mother’s warmth.
