WITCH (US)
The group Witch was born from a marriage of apparently contradictory influences. J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr. renown and his long time friend Dave Sweetapple were interested in forming a hard rock band. They found willing and able conspirators in Kyle Thomas and Asa Irons, members New England avant-folk outfit Feathers.
Witch utilize classic rock structures and murky — but heavy — atmospherics to achieve the kind of doom metal fanfare that plays to both fans of Black Sabbath and Mastodon. Longtime friends J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr. and Dave Sweetapple had always wanted a ”real” hard rock band, so they asked Asa Irons and Kyle Thomas, both members of New England avant folk collective Feathers, to join in on the racket. The resulting eponymous debut dropped in March of 2006 on Tee Pee Records.
SYNVILLA
Synvilla är bandet där surrealism möter vardagsrealism i en salig blandning av stoner, doom, lekfullhet och tunga riff med både mörka och lömska toner. 2023 släpptes debutalbumet ”Långkok och snabbkaffe” som mötte fina recensioner av bland annat Daniel Reichberg på Sweden Rock Magazine som skrev följande om bandet:
”Stoner? Jodå. Psykedelia? Ja, absolut. Släng in lite punk också, så blir blandningen närapå komplett. Men Synvilla, födda i Dalarna men idag omlokaliserade till Göteborg, låter egentligen inte som några andra […] den 70-tals bottnade hårdrocken och dess närapå ständiga ös talar sitt tydliga språk: tråkigt lär det knappast bli.”
Och tråkigt har Synvilla knappast haft. Bandet har sedan flytten till Göteborg bl.a. supportat Skraeckoedlan och The Dahmers, spelat på Muskelrock och varit med i flerkamera produktionen Dala Live.
