Elvaåriga Tony har en unik egenskap – han lyser. Han tillbringar sina dagar hemma och drömmer om att ha en vän. Innan jul flyttar en egendomlig flicka vid namn Shelly in i samma lägenhetshus och vänder upp och ner på hans värld. Tillsammans ger de sig ut på ett äventyrligt sökande efter ursprunget till det mystiska mörker som suger ljuset ur deras hus. En otroligt vacker och lite läskig stop-motion-animation.
