Först ut är en nervkittlande true-crime-dokumentär om ett extrovert par med fäbless för det goda livet och som inte räds några medel för att åtnjuta sig det. Om ovärderlig konst och udda hobbys.

1985 försvann Willem de Koonings "Woman-Ochre", en av 1900-talets mest värdefulla målningar, in i Arizonas öken efter att ha skurits ut från dess ram vid University of Arizona Museum of Art. 32 år senare hittades målningen, värd 160 miljoner dollar, hängandes i Jerry och Rita Alters hem på landsbygden i New Mexico. The Thief Collector undersöker hur och varför detta väluppfostrade par gjorde ett av en tidernas största konstkupp och utforskar en familjs komplicerade dynamik, kriminalitetens konturer och hur långt människor är beredda att gå till skapa sina egna storartade berättelser.
