Tindetrummornas rytmer imiterar kamelens passgång. Till detta adderas riff på stråkinstrumentet imzad och funkigt knäppande från en luta som kallas tehardent. Den snirkliga musiken och de melodiska sångrösterna skapar ett gung som är både välbekant och hypnotiskt. Det här är ökenblues från Mali, men till skillnad från andra superstjärnor i genren så frontas Tartit av kvinnliga musiker med tydligt feministiska budskap. De sjunger om skilsmässa och kvinnors rättigheter, såväl som tuaregernas kamp för fred och demokrati i Mali. På nya albumet Amankor / The Exile är hemlängtan ett återkommande tema: låtarna kom till i exil, när medlemmarna tvingats leva i flyktingläger i Burkina Faso och Mauretanien på grund av oroligheter hemma i Timbukturegionen.
