Description
Welcome to the participatory event Subsecular Arts 2.0!
Welcome to an intimate, co-created gathering focused on philosophy, music and rituals in various forms!
Last year the weekend after Swedish Midsummer, 35 people of different backgrounds - burners, DJs, philosophers, theologians, and just generally good people - decended upon Stora Kinäs Gård, located in the heart of Östergötland.
Walking around whilst everyone was packing up last year, everyone said the same thing: We have to do this again next year! And so we shall!
When?
Friday 29th of June - Monday 2nd of July you are all invited to join in and co-create an unforgettable, heart-warming, inspiring and deeply moving weekend together!
How does this type of event work?
So what kind of event is this? While not affiliated with Burning Man, we find inspiration in the ten principles of the creative and amazing festival that gathers 80 000 people in the Nevada desert each year. (https://burningman.org/culture/philosophical-center/10-principles/) These principles is a formulation of what kind of mindset one will benefit from having but what we do, create or take part in is up to each and every one.
There is no distinction between artist and audience or master and student. We are all doing this together. Everyone creates the event. Everyone joins in, in the ways they like. No compulsions. No limits. (Othan than Swedish law) If you don’t have the imagination to create a project of your own - or if you don’t have the power or resources to pull it off alone; then you go to the FB-group and let people know you want to join them. Post a little something about who you are, that you want to help and what skillset you have. Or make people enthusiastic about creating a project together with you, by inspiring them, sharing your thoughts.
What can I expect?
As it happened, last year there was a focus on philosophy and theology. This year we already know that the event will be visited by scholars, workshop-leaders and enthusiasts highly versed in philosophers such as Gilles Deleuze and Friedrich Nietzsche, psychologists such as Carl Jung and Jordan Peterson, theologians who know traditional ways of interpreting holy scriptures, and radical theologians who have thought long and hard about reinterpretations of holy scriptures, which can re-apply them to our contemporary understanding of reality in imaginative and profound ways.
While deep talks is certainly a possibility, there will also be opportunities to go beyond theoreticizing, to explore and really dive into how these and other philosophers, theologians, and their world-views and systems of meaning can have transformative effect on people’s lives.
So, just philosophy then?
These examples (music, philosophy, theology, workshops) are not boundaries, but rather examples that we know is going to take place! We will also have some fantastic music, at least one yoga teacher, people with workshop ideas (not tied to philosophy or theology). And if you feel that you have an idea that don’t seem to fit any of the descriptions above; even better! You are most welcome to add to the diversity of the event!
Where?
The setting is an old dairy farm placed by a lake, in very serene surroundings, which let’s the mind focus less on the everyday hustle and bustle of life, and really immerse yourself in the experiences that can take place at this location.
Leave no trace … or?
At Burning Man and other similar events there is a principle called ’Leave No Trace’, meaning that you clean up after yourself as if you were never there. In the old dairy barn, however, the opposite is true: You are very welcome to leave traces, paint things, maybe even build a structure that doesn’t have to come down afterwards!
