Under uppväxten i en liten by på den svenska västkusten började Joel Wästberg musicera i tidig ålder. Från fiol till saxofon och vidare till piano, bas, gitarr och trumset spenderade han barndomen sökandes och utforskandes efter sitt eget uttryck. Länge inspirerades han av saxofonister som Charlie Parker och John Coltrane och gjorde sig sedermera ett namn som frilansande musiker med olika grupper runtom i världen. När det var dags för Wästberg att släppa sitt eget material föll det sig naturligt att själv spela de allra flesta instrument på sitt debutalbum – allt utom säckpipa och harmonika.
När Wästberg nu släpper sin egen musik som sir Was är det kort sagt briljant rastlös och djärvt levande. Som ni förstår är det en eklektisk samling låtar som presenteras av den före detta jazzsaxofonisten som också hyser ett stort intresse för panafrikanska rytmer.
