Så här skriver Shilpa Ray om sin senaste skiva Portrait of a Lady:
För några år sedan snubblade jag över en Nan Goldin-utställning med hennes bilder från The Ballad of Sexual Dependency och det skakade mig i grunden. Det fick mig att reflektera över mina egna erfarenheter av sexuella övergrepp och misshandel samt den medieexplosion som har följt i spåren av #metoo-rörelsen. Portrait Of A Lady är inte nödvändigtvis en politisk skiva utan en personlig, som visar det goda, det dåliga och det fula, liksom den makt man i slutändan kan ha som överlevare.
Musikaliskt hämtar den inspiration från 80-talets surrealism och franska New Wave - med synthar, beats, gitarr och sång från tidiga Ministry, Billy Idol, Pat Benetar, Francoise Hardy och LA hair metal.
