Kazuo Ishiguro tilldelas årets Nobelpris i litteratur. Han får det, enligt Svenska Akademins motivering, för att han i sina romaner "med stark känslomässig verkan har blottat avgrunden under vår skenbara hemhörighet i världen".
För att vara Nobelpristagare är han en ovanligt läst och lättillgänglig författare. Hans böcker har översatts till över 40 språk och flera av dem har också filmatiseras.
