Fransk chanson blandas med argentinsk tango, amerikansk folkmusik blandas med gypsy swing och även indiska ragor har sin bestämda plats. San Francisco-baserade RUPA & THE APRIL FISHES förvandlar alla dessa influenser till en enkelt poppig och ogenerat svängig dansmusik. Frontkvinnan Rupa Marya är från Indien, växte upp i USA, Indien och Frankrike, och framför gruppens låtar på spanska, franska, hindi, romani och engelska.
Efter turné i sju år på fyra olika kontinenter och efter tre noggrant utformade studioalbum, släpper RUPA & THE APRIL FISHES Oval, en skiva gjord med uppfattningen att stora saker har ofta små rundade början. Oval är en sinnlig samling av stråkkvartettarrangerade låtar av kompositören och sångaren Rupa, där hon återvänder till den intima karaktären av sitt låtskrivande. Hon producerat skivan tillsammans med kompositören/arrangören Mark Orton (Tin Hat - kompositör för film Nebraska). Låtarna på Oval visar det dynamiska omfånget av Rupas låtskrivande, med stilar så olika som vals, tango, havet shanty, ghazal, och folkrock – allt detta förs samman av Ortons filmiskt tillvägagångssätt och Rupas varma röst.
Oval släpps sensommaren 2015: och strax efter det börjar Rupa sin efterlängtade europeiska turné. Hennes nya program omfattar låtar från hela hennes karriär - fransk stomp-kabaré av eXtraOrdinary Rendition (2007), latinska ska vibbar från Este mundo (2009), och svängig big band och samba reggae från Build (2012) - samt vackra och skarpa nya låtar. En gång till demonstrerar RUPA AND THE APRIL FISHES sin unika förmåga att blanda en enorm musikalisk vokabulär och fängsla mycket varierande publik över hela världen. Engagerande och långtgående blir deras musik soundtrack till en värld som balanserar på kanten av sig själv - med kärlek, brådska och ett sinne för humor. Dessa egenskaper fångas i levande färger genom denna imponerande show, som blandar ihop vild improvisation och noggrann sammansättning.
