Description
You are warmly invited to join us at Copenhagen 2021 WorldPride and EuroGames for the Refugees, Borders & Immigration Summit in Malmö, Sweden. It will be held at Malmö Live on Friday 20 August 2021. Walk in is between 8.30-9.00 and we will have a post summit mingle between 17.30 and 19.00.
We invite you to listen and participate as specialists, activists and politicians discuss the challenges surrounding the topic of refugees, borders and immigration, as they relate to the LGBTI+ community both globally and locally. You will hear discussion on topics such as displacement drivers, pathways, arrival at the destination country, the asylum seeking process and resettlement. Importantly, we aim to hold people with lived experiences at the center throughout this day long event.
As a participant you will be able to listen to the opening and closing keynotes, a panel discussion on today’s displacement drivers from an intersectional perspective and special artistic sessions that creatively shine a light on the issues at hand, such as the Amsterdam Rainbow Dress.
You can choose between 3 different knowledge tracks which will run simultaneously at different points throughout the day.
TRACK 1
Facilitating a space for in-depth experiential learning through storytelling about the often sidelined topics of different pathways to safety for refugees. Aiming to deepen the knowledge on these often sidelined topics.
TRACK 2
Re-thinking the way we work. Creating a deeper awareness amongst professionals that in their line of work meet LGBTQIA+ refugees. At each different topic area of the programme, examples of best practice and mechanisms that work or need to be improved will be shared.
TRACK 3
Generating an opportunity for politicians and government officials to learn from people with self-lived experiences. The goal here is to generate political discussion and actions moving forward in order to create a more inclusive and respectful process for LGBTI+ refugees and forcibly displaced people. It will be in the format of roundtable discussions with politicians, government officials, activists and people with self-lived experiences. This track is reserved to invitation only.
Our co-hosts for the summit will be the Swedish LGBTI+ policy expert Ulrika Westerlund and Alice Bah Kuhnke, Swedish member of the European Parliament. The program is planned in close collaboration with executive partners Rainbow Railroad, ORAM Refugee, Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International with strong support from regional organizations working with the LGBTI+ refugee community and UNHCR.
There will also be a pre-summit program on Thursday 19 August with opportunities to deepen one's knowledge and awareness on the topics to be discussed at the summit as well as meeting others dedicated to these topics at our pre-summit breakfast and afternoon mingle sessions.
