Each of these seven short films is brilliantly accomplished and represents the scope of current cinematic vision in this part of the world.

Danish filmmaker Anita Beikpour’s documentary “Walk With Me”, about her grandfather’s suicide, is a touching portrait that plays with form and style; Heta Jäälinoja’s animated short film “Penelope”, about a frantic house cleaning session, is a joy to behold, and “Road 13”, by Paolo Iskra and Kim Sundbeck, is a superbly dark, anxiety-inducing drama.

Programmer’s note: The three Ds – diverse, daring and delicious.

    Genderness Anders Ramsell

Hand-painted watercolours come to life in an animation. The actor Rutger Hauer is the voice of a beehive that doesn’t like bees and wants to be turned into a human. A poetic story about sexual identification beyond prevailing norms.

    Penelope Heta Jäälinoja

The doorbell rings. Someone is at Penelope's door. But everything is a mess.

    Walk With Me Anita Beikpour

Film director Anita Beikpour travels back in time to a life in Iran that she never knew to find out why her grandfather committed suicide when he came to Denmark after the revolution. Through a journey in which she wears his “face” and meets different people who know about grief, she gives life to her grandfather and gets closer to her own history. How do you say goodbye to a person who no longer exists?

Fantasy on Sarabanda Guðbjörg Hlín Guðmundsdóttir

A visual fantasy in claymation on the Sarabanda movement from J.S. Bach's D-minor partita for solo violin. An animated sculpture interprets the music and its expressions as in a ballet, a pantomime, or a silent film. Bach’s music is loaded with deep thoughts, allegories, hidden messages and strong emotions, but in a modest, subtle and distant way. Bach’s personal detachment from his work creates freedom and opens up a world of possibilities that are the inspiration for this claymation piece.

    Neverland Håvard Fandrem

Markus is a 15-year-old boy. He has feelings no one should have. He knows this is wrong and it can turn him into a monster if he loses control. Based on a true story about a person society rarely wishes to acknowledge: the young pedophile.

When I Hear the Birds Sing Trine Vallevik Håbjørg

Five Ivorian children fled their country when war broke after the presidential election of 2010. They talk about their hopes and dreams for the future.

Road 13 Paolo Iskra & Kim Sundbeck

On her way to the vet to have her dog put down, Sonja gets stuck in a traffic jam. In the car next to her sits a mysterious man who seems to know where she is going but has other plans for Sonja and her dog.
