Skivbranschen erbjöd inte den frihet som Nadia Nairs konstnärskap krävde så hon tog saken i egna händer. Och kanske var det tur, för hennes musik andas den typ av kompromisslöshet som inte alltid finner sin plats i dagens musikaliska klimat. För Nair kommer nämligen texten – poesin – först. När denna sedan ska tonsättas så hör man Nairs rika bakgrund som innefattar Indien, Malaysia och Sverige. Hårda 90-tals beats, soul, Bharatanatyam och 70-tals gitarrer bildar fond till de mantran Nair sjunger. Kraftfullt, vackert och souligt. Sitarer, Jimi Hendrix och Ahnoni. Det låter samtida men djupt rotat i historien; musik från 1000 år bakåt i tiden och 100 år framåt som hon själv träffsäkert har uttryckt det.
Efter debutalbumet Beautiful Poetry (2016) har Nadia Nair släppt två singlar som båda visar upp en försiktigare, mer romantisk sida av hennes konstnärskap där lyssnaren kan ana att både Sade och Erykah Badu har snurrat på skivtallrikarna. Att Nair är en kraft att räkna med i framtiden är ställt bortom allt tvivel. I eftermiddagssolen på Lydmars uteservering är det vår tur att uppleva det i egen hög person.
