Frälsningsarmén har en oerhört rik och skiftande repertoar av marscher. Redan vid rörelsen början i Sverige på 1880-talet använde man sig av små musikkårer av typ mässingssextett och den första förFrälsningsarmén komponerade marschen gjordes 1892 av Klaus Östby, f d norsk militärmusiker som blev musikchef för Frälsningsarmén i såväl Norge som Sverige.
Under 1930-talet utvecklades musikkårerna till brass band av brittiskt mönster och därmed utvecklades också marschrepertoaren till en större och mera mångsidig genreform. Allt från funktionella och traditionella marscher att marschera till mot konsertmarscher med en mer konstnärlig utformning utgör den nu kompletta mångfalden av marschmusik inom Frälsningsarmén.
Söderkårens Musikkår med dess dirigent Torgny Hanson, f.d. musikinspektör inom Försvarsmakten, är bästa tänkbara exekutörer och presentatörer av just Frälsningsarméns marscher.
