I ett alltmer narcissistiskt samhälle, där människan inte längre har rätt att vara olycklig och i kölvattnet upplever frustration, tomhet och meningslöshet, ser psykoanalysen i henne en lidande varelse.
Med utgångspunkt i tankegångar och begrepp hos Sigmund Freud, Jacques Lacan och existensfilosoferna, avser Peter Jansson visa hur vi här finner ett erkännande av våra tragiska existentiella villkor. Mot denna bakgrund, i kraft av förlustens, bristens och sorgens realitet, erbjuder psykoanalysen ett rum för sökandet efter begärets sanning och som, bortom symptomets bot och kravet på lycka, kan öppna för sann glädje och överflöd av liv och absolut individualitet.
