Los Gaiteros de San Jacinto
Colombias främsta ensemble inom cumbia och gaitamusik grundades redan på 1950-talet – och är i högsta grad levande sjuttio år senare. Gaita är namnet på en genre men också på instrumentet som spelar huvudrollen: en flöjt av bland annat kaktus och bivax, vars mjuka ton ofta smyckas med ett kraftigt vibrato. Ofta hörs flera spela i stämmor, över ackompanjemang av trummor och shakers.
Gaitans status är ikonisk inom colombiansk musik, och den är något av en symbol för landets historia. Innan kolonialtiden spelade instrumentet en viktig roll för ursprungsbefolkningen, som kallade flöjten för Chuana och Chuarras. Spanjorerna döpte den istället till gaita, eftersom tonen påminde dem om det ljudet från den galiciska säckpipan vid samma namn.
Den första upplagan av Gaiteros de San Jacinto startades av Miguel Antonio "Toño" Fernández, och sedan dess har medlemmar lämnat över till nästa generation att föra vidare det legendariska bandet. Idag är de en tight sextett med sångaren Rafael Castro i spetsen.
På albumet Un Fuego de Sangre Pura, släppt som en del av Smithsonian Folkways Recordings-serien, skildrade de fattigdom och lidande i sin hemregion Montes de María nära Colombias karibiska kust. Skivan vann en Latin Grammy 2007 och för första gången nådde gaitan, tillsammans med gruppens egna livsberättelser ut, långt bortom den Sydamerikanska kontinenten. I år är de aktuella med albumet Orgullo Colombiano där Los Gaiteros de San Jacinto visar i tolv låtar att de är lika förankrade både i cumbians och gaitans brokiga historia, och i genrens samtida metamorfoser.

Forastero är bildkonstnär, sound selector och kulturarbetare från Cali, Colombia. Liksom många andra kom han till Berlin för att söka en ny plats att kalla sitt hem. Ironiskt nog har hans känsla av att tillhöra sina rötter intensifierats i det nya landet. Vilken kommer till uttryck i det envisa ljudkollektivet Necio där liv blåses in i en vinyl- och nåldriven resa genom Latinamerikas djupaste traditioner och nya elektroniska horisonter. I centrum står cumbias, cumbias och mer cumbias, resten återstår att berätta...
