Kulturnatta
Athina Kontou är en grekisk-tysk basist och jazzmusiker baserad i Köln, Tyskland. Hon har studerat musikvetenskap och jazzkontrabas i Mainz, Aten, Weimar och Leipzig.
Hennes projekt Mother är historien om en musiker som föddes till grekiska föräldrar i Frankfurt, Tyskland och betraktar båda länderna som sitt hem. Athina arrangerar stycken från den grekiska musikkulturen - traditionella och samtida, sånger och danser – och bygger en länk mellan hennes identitet som jazzmusiker och hennes grekiska rötter. De traditionella sångerna är berikade med samtida
ljudlandskap och musiken som framträder talar intuitivt till publiken från en mycket personlig synvinkel. Kärnan i hennes arbete är sökandet efter de sammanbindande elementen av olika kulturer, då hon själv är en gränsöverskridare mellan de olika musikaliska kulturerna.
Med sina tre medmusiker Luise Volkmann, Dominik Mahnig och Lucas Leidinger formar hon en färgstark och livlig ljudkropp. Deras debut "Tzivaeri" släpptes i augusti 2022 på nWog-Records och nominerades för tyska kritiker
