Året är 1911 och vi befinner oss i Paris. Marie Curie, den geniala uppfinnaren och kemisten bakom miraklet radium, är på topp. Hon är älskad av folket, avgudad av sin man Pierre, och respekterad av de anställda på fabriken. Dessutom är hon så gott som garanterad vinnare av Nobelpriset i Kemi. Men hennes imperium är hotat. För när folk börjar dö under mystiska omständigheter, alla på något sätt kopplade till radium, tar detektiven Dette Dectiffe och Maries rival Albert Einstein upp jakten. Och när ett gäng förstorade partiklar, en pompös adelsman och och tidsresenär rycks med blir hon allt mer pressad. Plötsligt befinner Marie sig i en kamp mot klockan, där hon tvingas ljuga, fuska och utnyttja, och ställs till sist inför frågan: hur långt är hon villig att gå för ett Nobelpris?
