Den driftige och färgstarke Aaron Isaac är en av Sveriges märkligaste invandrare någonsin. När han 1775 fick Gustav III:s tillstånd att som förste jude bo permanent i Sverige, utan att behöva konvertera till kristendomen, lade han grunden till judiskt liv i landet. Han arbetade hårt både för sin familjs försörjning och för judarnas rättigheter. Han hade många judefientliga aktörer att kämpa emot, och som ledare av den judiska församlingen i Stockholm mötte han också en del internt motstånd. Men Aaron var envis och lyckades uppnå sina mål. Han överlevde alla sina släktingar och kamrater – och sina minst tolv barn. I denna biografi får vi en levande skildring av Aarons långa, dramatiska och innehållsrika liv och av de miljöer han verkade i, alltifrån födseln 1730 i en tysk småstad. Boken bygger på ny och omfattande arkivforskning och givetvis på Aarons egna nedtecknade minnen.
Carl Henrik Carlsson är docent i historia, föreläsare och författare. År 2021 nominerades hans bok Judarnas historia i Sverige till Augustpriset och till Stora fackboks priset. Han är en av författarna till Sveriges historia för släktforskare som utkom våren 2022.
