I år har tidningarna varit fulla av artiklar om första- och andra världskriget och förintelsen. De flesta av oss vill nog minnas. Men är vi beredda att lära av historien?
Innan mörkret faller är ett historiskt reportage om två parallella processer 1930-1933, hur Tyskland maldes ner av arbetslöshet och politikerförakt och öppnade dörren för Hitler, medan Per Albin Hansson i Sverige gjorde Socialdemokratiska arbetarpartiet (SAP) regeringsdugligt och Wigforss och Bramstorp lade fast en i Europa unik expansiv ekonomisk politik, som klarade demokratin i vårt land.
De tyska socialdemokraterna sa nej till ett liknande program för offentliga arbeten och valde att stödja kanslern Heinrich Brünings besparings- och deflationspolitik som drev upp arbetslösheten till enorma nivåer. Frågan som väcks är om det inte är en riskfylld väg som de socialdemokratiska partierna i Europa går idag, när man tycks låsa in sig i destruktiva ekonomiska dogmer, i likhet med på 1930-talet.
Björn Elmbrant är journalist och författare och har flera gånger skrivit om hur ekonomin tränger tillbaka demokratin, till exempel i Dom däruppe, dom därnere (1997), Dansen krig guldkalven (2005) och Det skulle bli så bra. Euron och hoten mot demokratin (2012).
Jenny Andersson, fil.dr, har bland annat skrivit en doktorsavhandling om socialdemokratin och är f.n. Research Director vid forskningsinstitutet Centre National de la Recherche scientifique (CNRS) i Paris.
