Orden tillhör Magnus Tosser, nöjesredaktör på NSD, efter en av Huggorms slutsålda och hyllade klubbspelningar i hemstaden Luleå. Men historien börjar tidigare, en mindre lyckad kväll 2017, då en i övrigt katastrofal fest slutade med att Wennberg och vännen Joakim Brännvall satte sig och skrev ”Demoner i skallen”.
Konceptet hade grott länge. De ville se vad som hände om de kanaliserade in alla influenser av KISS, ABBA och Queen - stora refränger, elektrifierande melodier, harmoniserande gitarrer och texter om Livet, Döden och allt däremellan - i en fyra minuters pulserande rockopera.
Svaret blev Huggorm. Knivskarpt, riffdrivet, euforiskt och livsbejakande. Träffsäkert som ett brännbollsträ i huvudet. Rock som rock ska vara, för de som vill känna sig förälskade, kåta eller frälsta.
”Kom och se oss ikväll / om du vill känna att du lever /.../ Jag vill in i ditt hjärta / slita ut allt det svarta” som de sjunger i programförklaringen från 2021. En låt som de gav namnet ”Hybris” (”annars hade nog folk trott vi var dumma i huvudet”, som de säger själva).
Sedan starten har de vuxit till en glödande, blödande dist-och-boogie-kvintett och explosiv liveakt, som utan skivbolag och bokare släppt sju singlar och en EP, hyllats av Café och Musikrådet-podden och delat scen med akter som Movits!, Zacke och Hällas.
