Jazz@Park Lane - The newest and coolest jazz venue in Göteborg! Right at the cultural ground zero at Götaplatsen on Kungsportsavenyn 38. The famous night club Park Lane in collaboration with Göteborg Jazz Orchestra & Wauxhall Jazz sets a new standard for jazz in Göteborg.

Tonight we give the audience an insight into one of Göteborg Jazz Orchestra's "raison d'être".

It happened to be a Monday that named a tradition - musicians of the highest level who meet in a big band and just love to play together and share the joy of playing with the audience. Just as true for GJO today in Göteborg as it was in the 60s in New York.

The best jazz musicians in New York wanted to play good music with each other and share the joy of playing - Monday was the free night of the week when it was possible to meet. The venue was the Village Vanguard Jazz Club and the orchestra was named the Thad Jones & Mel Lewis Orchestra – probably the most influential big band in modern jazz since its inception in the 1960s.

It's no wonder that it became a tone-setting concept – the combination of eager musicians, swinging and melodious music, room for soloists and a lot of joy of playing that is contagious – what's not to like and how timeless it is!

An obvious inspiration that has become GJO's lifeblood - the city's best musicians inspire each other, the audience and young people in music. There is no mistaking the response from the audience and fellow musicians from near and far who want to join.

Tonight, the band celebrates that tradition, performing the timeless music of Thad Jones, Bob Mintzer and others from the source of inspiration.

GÖTEBORG JAZZ ORCHESTRA is one of the most exciting movements in Swedish jazz. The big band has made a rocket career and in a short time established on the highest level. In their love to music they always look for new expressions and they attract collaborations with the best musicians - domestic and abroad. They often reach over the genre barriers with new formats.
