Normas hår är övernaturligt, det växer onormalt snabbt och påverkas av minsta skiftning i hennes humör. Detta är både till välsignelse och förbannelse. Norma och hennes mamma Anita har hela livet kämpat för att hålla det hemligt och skydda Norma från att betraktas som ett missfoster. Plötsligt dör Anita i något som kanske inte bara är en olycka och Norma blir ensam i världen.
Här hör vi Sofi Oksanen i samtal med journalisten Marie Lundström.
Sofi Oksanen (född 1977) är uppvuxen i Jyväskylä i Finland med en estnisk mor och en finsk far. Före Norma har hon skrivit fyra romaner och fått en lång rad prestigefyllda priser. Boken Utrensning, om kvinnoöden i Estland och Ryssland, blev hennes internationella genombrott.
