Description
Erlkönigs Tochter is a cantata for soli, choir and orchestra written in 1854 by Danish composer Niels Wilhelm Gade.
The ballad tells the story of a young man, Oluf, who is going to get married. The night before his wedding, he rides away to seek the elf-kings daughter who he is mysteriously drawn to - despite his mother's warnings. Oluf’s choice sets the scene for a dramatic story depicting key romantic conflicts of love and desire, as Oluf is drawn into the dark, mysterious and magical world of the elves.
Erlkönigs Tochter is one of N. W. Gade’s most popular and performed works, containing some of his best music for choir and orchestra.
The work will be performed by students and alumni of KMH and sung in German.
