Boniface "Softie", Mwangi har alltid kämpat för en positiv förändring i hemlandet Kenya. Nästa steg är att ställa upp i regionvalet. Ett mer komplicerat och farligare åtagande än han först trott.
Samtidigt som presidentvalet tar vid i USA lyfter vi med dokumentären "Softie" frågor kring demokrati och fria val.

Fotojournalisten och aktivisten Boniface “Softie” Mwangi har länge kämpat mot orättvisorna i hemlandet Kenya. Nu tar han nästa steg och bestämmer sig för att ställa upp i regionvalet. Men lika mycket som han är en idealist, är han också en kärleksfull familjefar. Och då hans obotliga optimism visar sig inte råda bot på de korrupta motkandidaterna tvingas han ifrågasätta sin egen kamp. Regissören Sam Soko fångar med träffsäker blick komplexiteten i att balansera kärleken för sitt land med familjens behov. Resultatet blir en rörande dokumentär som delvis sträcker sig bortom politiken och speglar vad som sporrar en aktivist till att aldrig ge upp hoppet om att kunna förändra sitt hemland.

Görrel Espelund är journalist och författare som framförallt skriver om humanitära och utrikespolitiska frågor med fokus på Afrika. 1997-2004 var hon Afrikakorrespondent och rapporterade från länderna söder om Sahara. Hon har publicerat en handfull böcker och bor stora delar av året i Sydafrika.
