Doc Lounge Göteborg presenterar stolt: WE COME AS FRIENDS, den senaste filmen av Hubert Sauper! I Sydsudan säljs marken billigt till utländska investerare samtidigt som 35 procent av befolkningen svälter och en av sju har tvingats lämna sina hem. Hur kan vi förstå vad som händer? Efter filmen samtalar vi med Klas Rönnbäck, som forskar om den europeiska slavhandeln och kolonialismen i Afrika.

We Come as Friends är en modern odyssé, en svindlande science-fictionresa i Afrikas hjärta. När Sudan, kontinentens största land delas i två nationer återuppstår en gammal civilisation. En civilisation bestående av kolonialism, olika maktvälden och nya blodiga heliga krig över land och resurser. Regissören från Oscarsnominerade Darwin's Nightmare tar med oss på en resa in till surrealistiska situationer och in till människors tankar och drömmar på både häpnadsväckande och hjärtekrossande sätt. Filmen visar en salig blandning av kinesiska oljearbetare, FN-fredsmäklare, sudanska krigsherrar och amerikanska evangelister som alla ironiskt nog delar samma mark.
