Fascinerande skildring av svenska pionjärer i nödhjälp – en okänd del av svensk historia.
1915 skickar Svenska Röda Korset ut friherrinnan Anna Linder och akademikern Sven Hedblom till Ryssland och Sibirien. Uppdraget är att lindra nöden och lidandet för krigsfångarna från Tyskland och Österrike/Ungern. För varje dag släcks nämligen alltfler liv i lägren av kylan, svälten, smutsen, farsoterna.
Anna och Sven följs så småningom av 75 andra svenska delegater och över tusen järnvägsvagnar med nödhjälp. I hundratals läger under tsartiden, revolutionerna och inbördeskriget bidrar svenskarna till fångarnas överlevnad. Samtidigt anklagas de för tyskvänlighet och spioneri, arresteras och hotas till livet. Alla svenskar kommer inte hem.
Per Allan Olsson, skribent och tidigare internationell delegat, är aktuell med boken Krigets fångar och änglar. Svenska hjälparbetare under första världskriget. Boken är ett stycke fascinerande svensk historia, tidigare inte skildrad i närbild. Per Allan Olsson skildrar genombrottet för Sveriges och Svenska Röda Korsets internationella hjälpverksamhet. Utan neutraliteten hade den inte blivit av.
