20 april kommer den amerikanska soulsångerskan Bettye LaVette till Nalen!
Bettye LaVette har under fyra decennier givit ut sin musik med ofattbart hög kvalitet.
När Bettye var ung bestämde hon sig för att bli sångerska. Hon var 16 år när hon gav ut sin debutsingel My Man – He’s a Lovin’ Man” och efter det lämnade hon Detroit för att åka på turné tillsammans med Ben E.King och en annan debutant Otis Redding.
Hon fick sitt slutgiltiga genombrott med albumet ”A Woman Like Me” år 2003. Efter denna storstilade comeback har Bettye LaVette hyllats för många av sina skivor.
Har man fått specialskrivet låtmaterial av Stevie Wonder, uppträtt med Barbara Streisand och Beyoncé, turnerat med en ung Otis Redding och sjungit för president Barack Obama – då är man trots allt ganska stor. Så även om Bettye LaVette själv säger att hon inte är någon megakändis och även om hon ofta beskrivits som världens främsta okända soulsångerska så är hon en stjärna.
