Vilken lycka att lyckats få Willie Watson att stanna till hos oss i Östersund på sin europaturné !
Han gör tre datum i Sverige och ett av dem är hos oss.
I nästan tjugo år har Willie Watson skapat modern folk-musik rotad i gamla traditioner. Han är en folksångare i den klassiska skolan; en sångare, berättare och resenär med en katalog av sånger som brygger dåtid med nutid. Han är en utmärkt multi-instrumentalist (gitarr, banjo, munspel), med ett brett sångregister och begåvad med ett snabb-rörligt folk-vibrato.
På senaste albumet ‘Folksinger, Vol. 2’ (2017) agerar han modern tolkare av gamla traditionella sånger och för vidare sina egna versioner av musik som kom långt innan honom. Sydstats-gospel. Järnvägssånger. Delta blues. Irländska fiddle-melodier. Appalachisk folkmusik. Inspelningarna har även ett par prominenta gästinhopp Gillian Welch, Paul Kowert (the Punch Brothers) och Old Crow-vännen Morgan Jahnig. Allt får plats på albumet som producerats av David Rawlings, och driver den folkliga traditionen vidare; att dela med sig och byta till sig gamla sånger. Från generation till generation. Det är andra albumet sedan han lämnade Old Crow Medicine Show (‘Folksinger, Vol. 1’ var det första), ett band som med sina platinum-säljande album hjälpte till att starta den folk revival som idag är så vital.
Watson har även medverkat i ett par filmer. Bland annat hör och ser man honom i bröderna Coens ‘The Ballad of Buster Scruggs’ (2018) där han spelar ‘The Kid’, och sjunger Grammy-vinnande titelspåret ‘When a Cowboy Trades His Spurs for Wings’, som skrivits av vännerna Gillian Welch och David Rawlings.
I November kommer han till Skandinavien för ett par datum för första gången!
