Maciej Zaremba, prisbelönt journalist på Dagens Nyheter, växte upp i det kommunistiska Polen utan att träffa några kommunister. Men han träffade Mick Jagger. Hösten 1968 kastades hans liv om abrupt. Han som trodde sig vara ättling till polska riddare fick av sin mor veta att hon är judinna och att de måste fly från landet. Maciej Zaremba tvingas se sin oskyldiga barndom i ett helt annat ljus, full av hemligheter och inkapslad ångest. Men också det som man vill dölja tar sig på hemliga vägar in i barnets sinne. Moderns krigshistoria som judinna på flykt, faderns öden i ett märkligt tyskt fångläger. Biografin är en dubbel resa, tillbaka till oskuldens tid och ner i den polska mellankrigstidens virulenta antisemitism. Vilka paralleller kan man dra till dagens situation i Polen?

Maciej Zaremba är en av Sveriges mest profilerade journalister. I en rad artikelserier om tvångssterilisering, polska rörmokare, sjukvården, om mobbning på arbetsplatser och om skolan har Maciej Zaremba skildrat ett Sverige som de flesta av oss aldrig får syn på. Han har bland annat tilldelats Stora Journalistpriset 2006, Svenska Akademiens pris 2008 och Publicistklubbens Guldpenna 2010 för sin journalistiska gärning. 2012 erhöll han Samfundet de Nios särskilda pris.
