New York Times döpte honom nyligen till “the Sultan of Shred” och musikbloggen Noisey “ the Worlds Best Guitarist”.
Singer-songwritern och gitarristen Omara Moctar, eller Bombino, som världen känner honom, har redan hunnit med fyra förstaplaceringar på Itunes World Music-listan och en grammy nominering för senaste plattan Deran för sin omisskännliga mix av ökenblues, rock och reggae.
Inspirerad av allt från reggae till klassisk rock skapar Bombino sin egen form av ökenblues, eller “Tuareggae” som han själv kallar det. Han växte upp i ett Tuareg-läger i Niger där han lånade till sig kassettband av Jimi Hendrix & Mark Knopfler och fick i tidiga år en gitarr av några släktingar som återvände från frontlinjerna av inbördeskriget. Bombino blev snabbt riktigt bra på sitt instrument och började spela i många olika band. När han 2009 levde i politisk exil i Burkina Faso, blev han uppsökt av dokumentärfilmaren Ron Wyman, som hört en kassettbandsinspelning med honom, och det slutade med att han övertalade Bombino att spela in sin första skiva “Agadez” som sedermera blev en stor succé. Idag har Bombino släppt totalt sex album, flera vilka producerats av internationellt kända producenter (Dan Auerbach från The Black Keys och David Longstreth från Dirty Projectors för att nämna två) och uppmärksammade globalt av lyriska kritiker och genererat en stadigt växande fanskara.
Bombino är från Niger men tillhör nomadfolket tuaregerna, eller Kel Tamsheq, som de själva säger, ett resande folk som blivit känt som Sahara öknens ständiga försvarare av frihet från kolonialism och strikt islamistiskt styre. De härstammar från de nord afrikanska berberna och de geopolitiska motsättningarna i deras historia och nutida situation återspeglas ofta i Bombinos musik. Tuaregerna lever i matriarkat där de äldsta kvinnorna bär den största respekten. Bombino flydde tidigt från sina föräldrar, som inte ville att han skulle bli musiker, för att växa upp med sin mormor som trodde på honom och satte stor vikt vid att han hade gåvan att göra viktiga gärningar genom sin musik. Och tur var väl det!
Till Slaktkyrkan kommer Bombino med sitt fulla band den 19 november för en kväll vi sent skall glömma från denna unikt begåvade politiska ökenambassadör!

The first thing to do is check your spam/junk filters and inboxes. Your tickets were sent as an attachment and can be thought of as spam by some email services.
